The
festival of Ugadi marks the new year of
the people of Andhra Pradesh. Ugadi is celebrated
in Karnataka by the same name. The preparations
to the festival begin days ahead, with the
house being cleaned and new clothes and
other household items being bought. A lot
of Pujas to welcome the New Year are carried
out. Green mango leaves are tied into a
string to decorate the entrance of the house
signifying prosperity. Fresh cow dung water
is also sprinkled on the floor signifying
the purification of the place. During Ugadi
the Gods are invoked and people pray for
the well being of the family and friends.
