The
Sabari mala temple is one of the most famous
temples of the country dedicated to Lord
Ayyappa.. The Sabari Mala temple is in the
village of Sabari which is nestled in the
Western Ghats. Transportation facilities
are available till Pamba from where devotees
have to take the journey on foot for about
5 kms. People take the trip to Sabarimala
after rigorous penance. The devotees wear
black Dhotis. Only young girls who have
not attained puberty and women who have
attained menopause are allowed to gain he
darshan of the Lord. Another important feature
of the temple is that all the devotees first
pay their homage to the Muslim God Vaavar
before paying homage to Ayyappa which is
an example of the religious tolerance of
the people here.
