Onam Festival

The Onam festival is characteristic of Kerala. This festival is celebrated by Keralites all over the world. It is believed that Kerala’s favorite king, Mahabali visits his citizens during this period and Onam is a celebration to welcome him. Flower carpets are made on the doorstep of all the houses with special lunch on the day of Tiruvonam. Onam is celebrated for a period of ten days usually during the months of August / September. Onam in Kerala also sees the release of several movies and also a huge number of exhibitions and sales. The unique feature of Onam is that it is celebrated by each and every Malayalee irrespective of their caste or creed.
