Onam festival is characteristic of Kerala.
This festival is celebrated by Keralites
all over the world. It is believed that
Kerala’s favorite king, Mahabali visits
his citizens during this period and Onam
is a celebration to welcome him. Flower
carpets are made on the doorstep of all
the houses with special lunch on the day
of Tiruvonam. Onam is celebrated for a period
of ten days usually during the months of
August / September. Onam in Kerala also
sees the release of several movies and also
a huge number of exhibitions and sales.
The unique feature of Onam is that it is
celebrated by each and every Malayalee irrespective
of their caste or creed.
