Kumbeshwara Temple

Kumbeshwara Temple is one of the most famous temples of South India, which is located in the town of Kumbakonam in Tamilnadu. The deity here is Siva also called Adi Kumbeshwara who is supposed to have made a Sivalinga for himself out of the broken pot of Amritham or Nectar and entered into it. Thus the name Adi Kumbeshwara. The Kumbeswara temple is considered a very holy place. The typical characteristic of this majestic temple is the huge Gopuram which has intricate carvings. Other deities like Lord Vinayaka and Lord Subramanian with six heads are also worshipped here.
